Patritti – Adelaide’s five star winery. In 1925, a 25 year old Italian named Giovanni Patritti boarded a boat at the port of Genoa and left his Piedmontese village of Carrú for a brighter future. One year later, he was making wine in Adelaide for the new Australians and just three years later, he owned numerous vineyards and a winery - hand-built with best friend, Cristiano (Jimmy) Bissacca. Until 1947, Giovanni (John) and Jimmy ran the winery electricity-free – no mean feat. Eighty-seven years later, this very winery, just 15km from Adelaide’s International Airport, is the only fully operational, 100% family-owned winery and cellar door in an Australian capital city. The five acre property is just 10 minutes from tourism precinct of Glenelg and all 20 staff work from the original, 1920’s Patritti family winery. Giovanni’s daughter Ines Patritti is the Managing Director and his grandson James is one of two winemakers. Giovanni’s sons John and Geoff Patritti are directors and work at the winery every day. Eldest son Peter is a board member.

Patritti specialise in small-batch winemaking, crafting single vineyard red wines from the family-owned vineyards in McLaren Vale’s Tatachilla and Blewitt Springs sub-regions. The family also produce a large range of wines from Australia’s best regions – both classic and alternative variety wines. The two winemakers, Ben and James are particularly skilled at custom winemaking, crafting styles to suit many international clients. Patritti’s non-alcoholic sparkling grape juices are highly sought-after both domestically and internationally and Patritti juice and wine have been exported around the world for more than 40 years.
